STRENGTH. PRIDE. EXCELLENCE

WHERE DO WE COME FROM…

Established in 1991, BMW is a proud community club based in SA’s Upper North. With a rich history spanning back to 1991 our club is more than just sport. Known as the Lions with our distinctive lion mascot and red, blue and gold colours, BMW (Booleroo-Melrose-Wilmington) was formed with the amalgamation of the Booleroo Centre & Wilmington-Melrose Clubs.

The BMW Lions play in the Northern Areas Football Association (NAFA) in parallel with netball competition administered by Northern Areas Netball Association (NANA).

  • Russell was born in 1983. He was the youngest child of Don & Carmel and brother to Bernadette & Greg “Alfie” Fiebig.

Russell was excellent in many sports including cricket and basketball. He won the Mount Maurice cricketer of the year twice for Booleroo at the age of 16 and 17. Russell won the Northern Areas Football, Junior Colts medal in 1997 and kicked 119 goals. He brought up his 100th goal for the season with his 15th goal of the match against Peterborough. He played his first A Grade match at the age of 15 and would practise his kicking daily. He would kick goals with ease, being able to kick 50m with both feet.

Sadly, in the year 2000 at the age of 17, Russell passed away in a car accident.

  • Desrae was born in 1962 and was the eldest child of Lincoln and Norita Storey, older sister to Brenton (Dig) and Sheree. Desrae passed away on the basketball court in 1984 at the age of 21.

Desrae excelled in whatever sport she chose be it athletics (Desrae still holds records at Booleroo High), tennis, basketball and of course netball. Desrae played her junior netball for Wilmington United in the Flinders Association before playing for Magpies in Port Augusta for a few years then returned to play for Wlmington/Melrose in 1983. She was a brilliant netballer and her athleticism showed playing in the Centre position and was part of the 1983 Premiership team.

Desrae won the A grade Best and Fairest in 1983. Following Desrae’s passing the memorial trophy was established to be awarded to the A Grade’s Best & Fairest player. This trophy is donated each year by the Storey family. Over it’s time it has seen many of our A grade stars names engraved on this trophy and our club is proud of all of them. In 1987 it was fitting that Desrae’s younger sister Sheree won this award.

  • Born in March 1967, Kim Kelly was a young man with a cheeky grin.. Kim embodied the spirit of the football club: “Do the work, whatever is asked and come back for more. Support your mates, your team and your club on and off the field and do it all in good spirit and good humour”. Helpfully he also had a decent serving of talent.

Kim was recognised for his contribution, receiving the coach’s trophy for Most Dedicated Player, just weeks before losing his life in a light plane crash at the age of just 18. Sadly Kim was one of six aspiring farmers who died that day.

Peter, Audrey and the Kelly family are proud that the football club continues to recognise these attributes in fine young players and is honoured that it does so with the perpetual trophy.

  • This trophy commemorates former BCDS teacher, and passionate BMW Club Man, Barry Zander, who passed away suddenly in 2020. Affectionately known as Mr Bazz to many of us, his strong sense of community and passion for the club and its junior players is one that will not be forgotten.

Mr Bazz was the epitome of outstanding contribution, he was a person who dedicated his time to helping others and creating lasting records for our club. He took many a photo, wrote a history book for the club which is so very treasured and well used today, hosted and supplied the sound equipment for nearly every social event held by the club and or community and treasured his time at school with our young people.
